As Managing Director, Matt Shen oversees CATL’s European operations and leads the company’s commercial development across the region.
Based in Germany with his wife and three children, Shen brings more than a decade of experience in the battery and automotive industries. After earning his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, he began his career at ATL in 2010.
He joined CATL in 2012, following Dr. Robin Zeng, and played a key role in launching the company’s first projects with BMW. Since then, Shen has held several leadership positions and has been instrumental in establishing and expanding CATL’s strategic partnerships with European OEMs and global automotive players.
In 2025, along with his his commercial responsibilities, Shen was appointed to lead CATL’s European production facilities in Arnstadt (Germany) and Debrecen (Hungary). Today, he leads both the ramp-up of production capacity and the commercial expansion of CATL, in close collaboration with the company’s global headquarters and European teams.
